One distinguishing factor about programs at Harleysville Learning Center is that children of different ages and abilities are not grouped together. Having separate classrooms for toddlers and two-year-olds, for example, means both groups learn and work at their own level and their own pace.
Infant care begins at 6 weeks of age. Attentive and loving staff read stories to the babies, sing, play music, and blow bubbles. Parents appreciate the separate sleeping room, which provides a quiet, tranquil place for sleeping, away from the active children.
Our Older Infant room begins when your infant begins moving! Staff encourage crawling, walking, rolling over, and many other important skills for your infant. As they grow and begin to walk, our teachers work with your child to begin table skills and transitioning from sleeping in a crib or pack and play.
Mixed Age Toddlers
Toddlers love activities and movement. Our toddlers are engaged in physical activities, music activities, as well as small muscle projects. They sing songs and review colors and shapes. As weather permits, they go outside to play as much as possible to play. This group also enjoys learning the calendar, and studying the weather every morning. They love to explore and experiment with new and exciting language and physical development. Two's learn to “tell” what they want and how they “feel” in this classroom. There is monumental growth in learning about others in this room.
The pre-school program runs from 9 a.m. to noon daily. This is an extensive academic program led by a certified teacher. The pre-school program is broken into two groups:
This group focuses on “readiness activities,” meaning they are getting ready for what is to come in later schooling. In addition to socialization, children begin alphabet recognition and practicing small motor control skills, such as holding crayons and pencils correctly. Self-actualization, discovery, and cooperation is practiced daily. The staff consistently encourages active learning with an inquisitive mind.
This class is designed to help prepare your child for first grade. Throughout the year, the program will focus on three major areas to help develop and foster your child's basic concepts, attitudes, skills, and the confidence necessary to promote life long learning. The three major areas are mathematics, language arts, and basic skills.
Full Day Kindergarten
Young children learn best by engaging with materials and experiences that have meaning to them and relevance to their lives. Our Kindergarten program uses a theme-based curriculum that is hands-on and designed to meet the needs of our students and to accommodate their variety of learning styles. We integrate all areas of content with a strong emphasis on reading, writing, and math. In addition to this we work diligently to teach our students character education and social skills to help them be caring, confident, and creative individuals!
